One of Bali's best kept secrets, Alila Manggis (formerly known as The Serai Manggis) is a secluded, stylish resort located on a tranquil beach in Manggis, East Bali. Set amidst a coconut grove, the resort is nestled between the sea and the majestic Mount Agung, Bali's most sacred mountain.
All rooms and suites face the ocean with clear views across the straits to Nusa Penida. A contemporary interpretation of traditional Balinese architecture is artfully combined with modern amenities to create a relaxed environment in harmony with its natural surroundings.
Alila Manggis is located about 75 kilometers from the Ngurah Rai International Airport, or about two hours drive, Manggis is an area between Padang Bai Harbor and Candidasa.
Set in a traditional Balinese pavilion on a lotus pond, The Restaurant serves both a contemporary menu of signature dishes and a collection of Indonesian and Balinese favorites. The Restaurant's elegant and relaxed setting overlooks the resort's beautifully landscaped grounds and the ocean.
Poolside and garden dining is available at Alila Manggis. Set beneath the tranquil coconut grove, the pool and extensive lawns are just a step away from the beach.

Cooking School
Alila Manggis' Cooking School is a unique course conducted over a period of five days. It focuses on Indonesian but essentially Balinese food. The format for the school is such that participants spend half the day in the kitchen and the other half exploring Bali from a culinary and cultural point of view. Participants learn how to make sambal, classic satay, Balinese fish dishes, curries and traditional sweets.
Alila Manggis' Cooking School offers three programs of half-day, two days or five days duration.
There are seven 5-Day Programs and twenty-two 2-Day Programs available for 2003. All programs, including a half-day course, can be made available upon request. Certain restrictions apply. Please enquire directly with the hotel.

Swimming Pool
Alila Manggis' swimming pool is a central feature of the resort and is designed as an unusual inverted pyramid. This creates shallow waters around the edges and deep water in the middle. Set in landscaped gardens under swaying coconut palms, it provides the perfect place to lay back and enjoy the resort's peaceful, sunny environment.
Leisure Concierge
The hotel has its own leisure concierge where guests can book trips to local attractions and excursions from whitewater rafting to deep-sea fishing.
Water Sports
Wave skis and snorkel masks and fins are available for hire. The resort also has its own Balinese outrigger that can take guests from the beach in front of the hotel to the Blue Lagoon, a beautiful and colorful reef teeming with marine life. East Bali has the most spectacular dive sites on the island, and all are located close to Alila Manggis. Diving and fishing trips can be arranged through the hotel.
Trekking
Two- to six- hour treks are available at The Alila Manggis in the company of knowledgeable local hotel guides. Trips include a trek to Gumang Hill for stunning views of verdant rice terraces and Mount Agung; Kastala to Tenganan, a trek off the beaten track through rice terraces and small farms to the Bali Aga village of Tenganan, famous for its double ikat weaving and unique basket-making; and the Mount Agung trek for the truly adventurous, a four-hour climb reaching the top in time for sunrise.
Mountain Biking
Mountain bikes are available for hire at the hotel along with maps of suggested routes through the spectacular scenery and villages.

With advance preparation, the Alila Manggis can prepare for its guests a traditional wedding ceremony, the Balinese nuptial blessing, bridal procession, a cocktail reception and a royal Balinese dinner.
